ARCHEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
The Archaeological Museum of Istanbul, founded in 1881 next to Topkapi Palace, houses a remarkable collection of artefacts from many different Anatolain civilizations, some of which date back as far as 10,000 BC. There is also a priceless collection of Byzantine antiquities on exhibit. Displaying such an ecclectic collection of pieces has elevated opinion that it is one of the most fascinating archaeological museums in the world.
