ASPENDOS

The ancient city of Aspendos has the most magnificient Roman theater in Asia. Accessible from Antalya by a relatively short drive, Aspendos presents the traveller with the sight of a most memorable monument from the length of the Turkish Mediterranean coast. Ataturk, the founder of the modern Turkish Republic, was so impressed by the magnificence of the theater that he at once ordered it to be put back into use. Today, the grand theater of Aspendos houses the annual Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival in June and July, as well as other performances that cover most of the summer season.
