PAMUKKALE & APHRODISIAS
Pamukkale, translated literally, means the cotton fortress in English. It is basically an open-air spa. The hot calcium-laden mineral water that bursts out of the earth down the cliff leaves a snowy white residue of calcium deposits as it cools down. The result is the snowy white travertines which lend the site its name.
Aphrodisias
This ancient city's name derives from the Greek goddess of love and fertility, Aphrodite. The site is on the top of a hill formed by a succession of settlements in the area throughout history. The earliest settlements noted through excavation go
back as far as 3000 BC.
